About

My name is Petra Pfänder and I love to cook and travel.
Cooking is rather new passion of mine. Not that I wasn´t much interested in food – it has always played a highly important part in my life. Even as a child I loved eating and never shrinked from trying anything – at least once. When I travel, it’s the first thing I define a country by, and it seems that from my childhood on most of my memories relate to food in one way or another. I just didn´t care much about cooking.
One day everything changed. I had to meet a deadline for a novel and everything but writing seemed highly important to me. In theses situations I usually clean my windows and the fridge and, eventually, finish the manuscript.
I don´t know why I started cooking this time. An obsession began. After turning the manuscript in I expected my cooking zeal to vanish but instead it has grown. I discovered that I am rather reluctant to put a lot of sugar and fat in my pots, I do not eat animals which had a miserable life in order to feed me, and I like to experiment with recipes. Actually, I hardly ever manage to follow a recipe in every step, which shows great results as well as it ends in disaster.
Unfortunately I don´t know other people who are seriously interested in cooking. My friends love to eat my food but when I start talking about different methods of preparing, my favourite kitchen tools, cookbooks or the best farm shop nearby the big yawning starts.
I am lucky to make a living from my passions: writing and photography, and I am a former web designer. So it seemed rather obvious to mingle these subjects with my new love for cooking and start a food blog. I have no idea where exactly I´m heading with this blog, I just think it will be fun to share my recipes, my passion for food and travelling and all the stories which arise out of this.
I live in Dortmund, Germany, with my daughter and our cat.
My photography gear:
